Prioritising the act of ‘switching off’ from the busy workings of everyday life often slips under the radar on our ever-growing to-do lists. That’s where the REVS organisation comes in, championing the importance of connecting with likeminded individuals through shared passions and interests, focusing on personal journeys of growth and reflection.

The Pilgrim Tour which runs every October, gives those involved a chance to slow things down and take in the beauty of the Welsh countryside on a pre-defined and professionally run car rally. The weekend includes some local attractions enroute, catching up with friends old and new, and an open environment to spark energetic and enriching conversations.

For the past two years, StarterMotor has facilitated use of one of its loaned cars for two nominated participants. The selection criteria are focused on those who may never have experienced a similar event before, but most importantly, have recently experienced notable personal challenges. This year, Tim and Dawn were the two people put forward and given the chance to drive the Charity’s 2013 Morgan Plus 4, an elegant British classic perfectly suited to the winding Welsh roads.

From the moment they collected the Morgan at Bicester Motion on Friday, the sense of anticipation was tangible. Over the course of the weekend, they not only discovered the fun of navigating tulip diagrams and rally etiquette but, in Tim’s words, were able to “immerse [themselves] in the atmosphere and energy of the event.”

Saturday’s route led the group from the Plough Hotel in Llandeilo through Cenarth, Nevern, Pwllgwaelod, Trecwn, and finally to St Davids. Along the way, pilgrims enjoyed a talk by Martin Rees, CEO of Berkeley Coachworks, explored charming villages, and savoured Welsh cakes and a traditional local lunch. Upon reaching St Davids, the group visited the wonderful Cathedral to see a facsimile of The Saint John’s Bible, the first handwritten and hand-illuminated Bible produced in over 500 years, an experience that left many in awe and quietly moved. The evening concluded with a visit to the Lifeboat Station, where watching the sunset over the water beautifully captured the essence of the tour: slowing down to appreciate the smaller, yet often most meaningful, moments in life.

Sunday marked the final leg of the journey, with stops through Tafarn Sinc, Rhosmaen, and Fishguard, before returning to Llandeilo. Over lunch, participants reflected on the weekend’s memories and speculated on where next year’s route might take them. A few warm goodbyes later, the convoy dispersed to head to their respective homes, but the impact of connections made and the sense of peace lingered long afterwards. As Tim and Dawn reflected, they “...both left with a deep sense of belonging to something really special.”

At StarterMotor, we deeply value the classic and historic motoring community and the incredible way it brings people together. For many young enthusiasts, finding others who share that same passion can be life changing. Nurturing these connections is vital for the future of this sector, preserving not just the vehicles, but the friendships, shared experiences, and sense of belonging that make it truly special.
