What do you get when you combine a diverse community of motoring enthusiasts, an iconic British racing circuit, and a suitcase? The answer can only be The Pomeroy Trophy, hosted by the Vintage Sports-Car Club at the legendary Silverstone Circuit.

The event is a highlight on the classic car community’s calendar and is often seen as the moment that kickstarts the historic racing season. Thanks to the VSCC, we were proud to take three of our young Ambassadors to be part of the team delivering this unique and much-loved event.

Celebrating its 70th year, The Pomeroy Trophy has a rich legacy. Its original concept was simple: a competition to find the best touring car; the ultimate all-rounder. A car capable of carrying luggage, excelling in high-speed regulatory testing, and tackling slaloms with ease. Simple criteria, right? That’s exactly what makes the event so special, welcoming cars from the Edwardian era through to more modern machinery and truly embodying the spirit of the community.

Despite the mid-February chill, the sun made a welcome appearance (for the first time this year!), creating a heartwarming day and a powerful reminder of what makes the historic motorsport so special.

Ellie, who first connected with us at Bicester Motion in October 2024, gained first-hand experience of scrutineering; witnessing the care, precision, and technical expertise that underpin historic competition (with Pomeroy regulations very much in a league of their own).

Coco, who also began his journey with StarterMotor in 2024, joined the media team, capturing the spirit and character of the day through his lens. Equipped with a media tabard and shadowing an experienced VSCC photographer, he finished the day with full SD cards and an unforgettable experience.

Emily Grace, whose introduction to StarterMotor dates to the October 2023 Scramble, stepped confidently up to the mic, supporting the VSCC media team with interviews and presenting, an inspiring example of how quickly young talent can grow when given the opportunity.

StarterMotor continues to build a broad and meaningful network of opportunities for young enthusiasts, from education and training to volunteering and hands-on event experience. These moments don’t just fuel passion, they build skills, confidence, and real professional pathways.

We’re hugely grateful to the VSCC for providing such a unique and inspiring experience for Ellie, Emily, and Coco, young people we hope will become active, influential owners and professionals in the classic and historic vehicle sector for many years to come.

If we want the future of the classic car community to thrive, we must invite young people in and give them real roles, real responsibility, and genuine belief in their potential.
