I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Motor Racing Legends Silverstone GP Racing event, made possible through StarterMotor, a charity dedicated to providing young people with invaluable work experience and job opportunities in the motor industry. I was eager to immerse myself in this thrilling environment and learn more about the world of motorsport.
I had the privilege of accompanying Club68, a family racing team that exemplifies the spirit of generational racing. At just 18 years old, Evie made her debut in the race alongside her grandfather, showcasing not only her talent but also the strong family bonds that make motorsport so special. Her father, Mike, also competed, and together they claimed the Generations Trophy a testament to their teamwork and dedication.
As a 16-year-old aspiring professional in the motor racing world, I found myself behind the scenes in the paddock, pit lane, and assembly area. The buzz of the event was palpable, and I was thrilled to be part of it. My role primarily involved managing Club68's social media accounts, handling communications and public relations. One of my key tasks was to create a short video capturing the highlights of the weekend, showcasing the team’s journey and the excitement of the races. This project allowed me to put my creativity to work while promoting the team’s achievements.
In addition to the video, I crafted engaging social media posts featuring professional photos taken throughout the event. I selected striking images that highlighted the team's efforts and Evie’s milestone debut, ensuring our followers felt connected to the experience. This hands-on approach not only enhanced my skills in digital content creation but also provided valuable insights into effective communication strategies within the racing community.
Alongside my work with Club68, I completed work experience with Motor Racing Legends. I shadowed their communications manager, who entrusted me with various tasks, including organising the cars in the paddock for a photoshoot and assisting in placing cameras in the cars to capture in-car footage. These practical experiences further enriched my understanding of the operational side of motor racing.
The weekend was nothing short of amazing. From witnessing the excitement of the races to learning about the intricacies of team management and communication, every moment contributed to my passion for motorsport. I left Silverstone inspired and motivated, eager to pursue a career in the motor industry.
Overall, this opportunity not only enriched my understanding of the racing world but also reinforced the importance of initiatives like StarterMotor in helping young people like me find their place in this exhilarating field. I am grateful for the chance to be part of such a dynamic event and look forward to future experiences in motor racing.
